Eminem - Stan (2002)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIDNCvPqg6I

The video is about an obsessed Eminem fan called Stan who takes his infatuation too far and ultimately causes his demise. This music video is a narrative rather than a performance and hardly features Eminem himself atall, although there are many photos, clips of him on Stan's tv screen, and magazine covers etc featuring him so it is like he is there throughout the video, especially due to the titular character Stan being so obsessed with Eminem that he attempts to look exactly like him and even sees Eminem when he looks in themirror.
The first minute and 25 seconds is just acting and does not have the song in the background, only eerie music and the sound of rain and thunder. It is there to introduce the viewer to the character of Stan and his back-story. The first time the viewer is introduced to the character of Stan he is bleaching his hair in the bathroom to mimic Eminem, so we can already tell he totally idolises him. Straight away the viewer can tell that Stan is not living in a well-kept house and that he is probably not very well off. We are then introduced to his very pregnant girlfriend who is not given a name. When she remarks about his bleached hair, without warning he shouts at her in a sudden outburst of rage. Next we briefly see his girlfriend singing in their bedroom and suddenly it switches to Eminem receiving his fan-mail.
Next we see Stan storm off into his basement which he has converted into some kind of Eminem shrine, with pictures of him covering all of the walls. The camera suddenly shows Stan going towards his writing desk and we can see his stamped envelopes addressed to Eminem's fan mail unit. He then proceeds to write a letter to Eminem, we can tell it is not the firstas he sings "Dear Slim, I wrote but you still ain't calling. I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom. I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em". It then switches to Eminem reading the letter. Then we see Stan watching a clip of Eminem on the TV and when he waves in it, Stan waves back, as if they really know each other and as if Eminem is really there with him. Next, he gets even creepier and sees himself as Eminem when he looks in the mirror. He then finished writing the letter and puts in in a pre-written envelope saying 'Eminem Fan Unit'. When his girlfriend talks to him while he is watching television he yells at her for interrupting. Next, you watch his letter to Eminem fall out of the post trolley at the post office, therefore not reaching Eminem on time.
As the song goes along Stan gets increasingly angry and aggressive as the song goes on, writing more and more letters in hope for a reply from Eminem and finally gets so frustrated that he gags his girlfriend, puts her in the boot of his car and after drinking "a fifth of vodka" drives off a bridge while recording himself talking on cassette. When the car is found with Stan and his girlfriend drowned inside, the tape is recovered by police and as Eminem is replying to one of Stan's letters he realises the tape is from Stan.
